Abies alba

Used as an inhalant, to treat bronchitis, cystitis, leucorrhoea, ulcers and flatulent colic (leaves and resin); in bath extracts, rubbing oils etc for treating rheumatic pains and neuralgia (resin)

Acacia pennata

In fever, headache and other body aches (leaf decoction); indigestion in infants (leaf juice mixed with milk); for treatment of bronchitis, asthma and for stomach complaints (bark); cholera treatment, digestive complaints, relief of headache, body pain, snake bites, and even to cure fish poisoning (boiled tender leaves); for flatulence and to cure stomach pain (root).

Aconitum bisma

In diarrhea, rheumatism, vomiting and as a tonic (root); gastrointestinal disorder (used in "Gasex") (plant).

Acorus calamus

Asthma, bronchitis, for burns, cancer, catarrh, colds, cough, sore throat, colic, constipation, diarrhea, dysentery, indigestion, epilepsy, fever, flatulence, gangrene poisoning, headache, hemorrhages, nerve problems, odontosis and in parturition.

Agave americana

Syphilis, scrofula, to bruises, cancer, for indigestion, flatulence, constipation, jaundice, dysentery and gonorrhea (leaf juice); for toothache (gum from root and leaf).

Aletris farinosa

Promotes the appetite and is used in the treatment of diarrhoea, rheumatism and jaundice, for expelling flatulence, for troubles arising from menopause and for various uterine disorders (root); It is used as a female tonic in loss of virility and for debility (decoction of the dried root); in stomach problems and bloody dysentery (infusion of the leaves).

Alpinia officinarum

Useful in treating dyspepsia, vomiting, in removing flatus, sea-sickness,in cattle medicine, as a diuretic and antimicrobial (rhizome)

Alternanthera sessilis

To treat wounds, flatulence, cough, bronchitis and diabetes, hair growth, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and dysentery (plant juice); for relieving indigestion and are eaten as a cooked vegetable or in soups (young shoots and leaves); to relieve inflamed wounds (root).

Andropogon gerardii

For stomach-aches and flatulence (root decoction); to relieve fevers and general debility (leaves)

Angelica archangelica

Good remedy for colds, coughs, pleurisy, wind, colic, rheumatism and diseases of the urinary organs, for intestinal problems (including indigestion).

Angelica atropurpurea

In the treatment of colds, rheumatism etc (leaves); in the treatment of fevers, colds, flatulent colic and other stomach disorders, obstructed menses and as a general tonic for women, as a gargle for sore throats and mouths and as a poultice for broken bones, swellings etc (infusion)

Anthemis nobilis

In cases of ordinary indigestion, such as flatulent colic, heartburn, loss of appetite, sluggish state of the intestinal canal, and also in gout and periodic headache, and is an appetizing tonic, especially for aged persons, nerve disorders, as a carminative and stimulant (flower).

Artemisia absinthium

For sluggish stomach and gall bladder function, prolaped stomach, anemia, anxiety, parturition, chlorosis, depurifying the body, chronic fever, flatulence, gastric pain, gout, urinary stones, heartburn, indigestion, leukemia, depression and migraines.

Artemisia dracunculus

To cure toothache (root); stimulates the digestive system and uterus, lowers fevers and destroys intestinal worms (plant); in the treatment of indigestion, flatulence, nausea, hiccups etc (leaves); to treat digestive problems, as emmenagogue (essential oil)

Betula utilis

As a carminative (infusion), antiseptic and in maladies involving convulsions, such as epilepsy (decoction).

Blumea eriantha

As a carminative and diuretic (plant).

Callicarpa arborea

In skin diseases, as a tonic and carminative (bark).

Carum carvi

Stomach problems, bronchitis, to increase the production of breast milk in nursing mothers (seed); rheumatism and lumbago (seed vapor); in cancer, cholera, abscesses, flatulence, halitosis, headache and as an emmenagogue; "Caraway water" is used as a veh.

Celtis australis

Colic and amenorrhea (fruit); in the treatment of amenorrhoea, heavy menstrual and intermenstrual bleeding and colic (leaves and fruit decoction); to astringe the mucous membranes in the treatment of diarrhoea, dysentery and peptic ulcers (decoction).

Centaurium erythraea

Acts on the liver and kidneys, purifies the blood and is an excellent tonic for the digestive system; good application to wounds and sores (fresh herb), Anorexia, kidney stones, anemia, as well as all digestive problems, including dyspepsia, constipation, flatulence, heartburn, etc.

Chenopodium ambrosioides

To expel parasitic worms from the body , for haemorrhoids, as a poultice to detoxify snake bites and other poisons and is thought to have wound-healing properties (herb); reduce flatulence (leaves).

Chlorogalum pomeridianum

To treat wind in the stomach, rubbed on rheumatic joints, in the treatment of dandruff, to prevent lice and also to treat skin irritations including that caused by poison oak (bulb)

Cinnamomum camphora

In indigestion (leaf); as a sedative (in hysteria), carminative, aphrodisiac, as a nervine depressant in chorea, epilepsy, convulsions and rheumatism, in urogenital disorders, pruritis and as an antidote (in strychnine poisoning) (essential plant oil). Camphor liniment is used for relief of pain in muscular rheumatism.

Cinnamomum cassia

As a pain reliever (including those associated with the uterus), laxative, astringent, carminative, liver and heart tonic, in reducing fever, neuralgia, edema and ascites. It is used to assist and flavour other drugs, being helpful in diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, and to relieve flatulence.

Cinnamomum tamala

In indigestion, in colic, diarrhoea and rheumatism (leaf).

Citrus medica

In kidney stones, vomiting, as a laxative and anthelmintic (root); as a tonic and stimulant (fruit), to treat tastelessness due to fever, intrinsic haemorrhage, anaemia, jaundice, hiccough, asthma, vomiting, pain in cardiac region, colic, pox, calculus and gravels, dental caries, for easy delivery, foul smell in flatus, erysipelas, headache, anorexia during pregnancy and earache.

Clerodendrum serratum

Asthma, dyspepsia, anorexia, flatulence, helminthiasis, tubercular glands, leucoderma (root) and bronchitis (root and plant decoction). Leaves as external application for cephalagia and opthalmia.

Coscinium fenestrum

Treat indigestion, flatulence, diseases of liver, worms and fever (root); in case of snake-bites (stem decoction).

Costus speciosus

In gout; as an antiinflammatory, stimulant and anthelmintic (rhizome); also beneficial in asthma, anaemia, bronchitis, leprosy, flatulence, constipation, fever, skin diseases and inflammation. It is also used for carcino­genic tumours.

Cuminum cyminum

As a remedy for colic and dyspeptic headache, as a cure for stitches and pains in the side caused by the sluggish congestion of indolent parts. It is bruised and applied externally in the form of a plaster for wounds. Used in the treatment of insomnia, bloating, cough, diarrhea, indigestion, morning sickness, colds and fevers and to improve milk production in nursing mothers and also as a general tonic to the whole digestive system, it is used in the treatment of flatulence and bloating, reducing intestinal gas and relaxing the gut as a whole (seeds); Ground into a powder and mixed into a paste with onion juice, it has been applied to scorpion stings.

Curcuma zedoaria

As a blood purifier (fresh rhizome). Useful in flatulent colic and debility of the digestive organs. Improves blood circulation, ant contusion, and improves menstrual flow. It also helps in pain and swelling associated with sprains.

Cyperus esculentus

Promote urine production and menstruation (plant); in the treatment of flatulence, indigestion, colic, diarrhoea, dysentery, debility and excessive thirst (tubers)

Daucus carota

Hemorrhoids, leprosy, tumors, eye diseases, burns, to encourage delayed menstruation, can induce uterine contractions and jaundice (root); poultice for sores (root decoction); kidney diseases and dropsy (fruit and seed); colic (fruit); for lithic acid or gouty disposition, in gravel and stone, and is good against flatulence, windy colic, hiccough, dysentery, chronic coughs, etc (tea); to mitigate the pain of cancerous ulcers (root poultice); cleanse running sores and ulcers (leaves wth honey); used to counter cystitis and kidney stone formation, and to diminish stones that have already formed (leaf infusion); in the treatment of diabetes (flower infusion); for threadworms (grated raw root); used in the treatment of oedema, flatulent indigestion and menstrual problems (root infusion); a traditional 'morning after' contraceptive (seed).

Diospyros peregrina

For wounds and ulcers;in vitiated conditions of pitta, burning sensation, inflammations, diarrhea, dysentery, leprosy, skin diseases, pruritus, dyspepsia, haemorrhages, burns, diabetes, fever, spermatorrhea and vaginal disorders (bark); in strangury, dyspepsia, flatulence, scotoma, nyctalopia, opthalamia, epistaxis, haemoptysis, burns, tubercular glands, scabies and wounds (leaves); in leucorrhoea, urethrorrhea, splenomegaly, nyctalopia, anaemia and scabies (flowers).

Dodonaea viscosa

For skin disease (heated leaves); to reduce fever, to treat eczema, and to heal ulcers (decoction of barks); to relieve fever, colic, gout and rheumatism, and as a treatment for venereal diseases (leaf decoction); for flatulence (wood powder)

Dolichos uniflorus

Measles, smallpox, burns, sores and tumors (plant); menstrual problems (plant decoction); kidney stones (seed). Ayurveda uses decoction of seed in leucorrhoea, menstrual troubles, bleeding during pregnancy, colic caused by wind, piles, rheumatism, heamorrhagic disease and for intestinal worms. Soup prepared from seeds is beneficial in enlarged liver and spleen. Tribal practices use the parts of the plant for dysuria, sores, tumours, burns, adenitis, fistula ani, intercostal neuralgia, pleurisy, piles, hiccups, abdominal lump, bronchial asthma,pneumonia, prolapsus ani, menstrual complaints, piles, colic, epistaxis, flatulence, ophthalmia, ulcers,urinary troubles and kidney stone.

Drimys winteri

For stomach problems, colic, dandruff and scurvy (bark)

Elettaria cardamomum

As an adjuvant for drugs with a carminative or laxative effect, in flatulence, colic and indigestion. It is used as an aromatic stimulant, carminative and flavouring agent. Powdered cardamom mixed with ginger, cloves and caraway is a good stomachic useful in atonic dyspepsia. In herbal medicine, cardamoms are chewed slowly to sweeten the breath, as aphrodisiac, to sooth digestion, stimulate appetite, used against flatulance, colics and disorders of body, often combined with purgatives to offset griping.

Ferula narthex

It is used in the treatment of asthma, whooping cough, flatulent colic, and in pneumonia and bronchitis in children. The leaves are carminative and diaphoretic. The plant is identified as a potential contraceptive.

Helicteres isora

Snakebite antidote, diabetes and infections in the abdomen (root); stomachache(fruit); dysentery and diarrhea (fruit and bark); in dysentery and diarrhoea (bark); in otorrhoea (seed powder and mixed with pure castor oil or coconut oil); diarrhoea, dysentery, and gripping pain in the bowels, flatulence and in diabetes (root decoction); to children to kill intestinal worms (fried fruits). Besides, a decoction of its fruits with Achyranthes aspera plant also prescribed to give in fever.

Hyssopus officinalis

In the treatment of flatulence, stomach-aches, upper respiratory tract infections, coughs in children etc (tea from leaves); in gargles for quinsy and ordinary sore throat.

Juglans nigra

In the treatment of skin diseases, scrofulous diseases, herpes, eczema etc; diarrhoea and also to stop the production of milk, to allay the pain of toothache, headache (bark); for ringworm, colic and applied as a poultice to inflammations (husk); in the treatment of gangrene, leprosy, and wounds (oil from ripe seeds)

Juniperus communis

In urinary tract diseases, dropsy, digestive maladies, maladies associated with the chills, rheumatism and body aches. Oil of Juniper is given as a diuretic, stomachic, and carminative in indigestion, flatulence, and diseases of the kidney and bladder. The oil mixed with lard is also used in veterinary practice as an application to exposed wounds and prevents irritation from flies. Spirit of Juniper is employed as a stimulating diuretic in cardiac and hepatic dropsy. The fruit is readily eaten by most animals, especially sheep, and to prevent and cure dropsy.

Kaempferia galanga

As a carminative, diuretic and expectorant; in treating nausea, flatulence, dyspepsia, halitosis, rheumatism, catarrh and enteritis (tuber). Powdered tubers are administered for coughs and pectoral affections.

Laurus nobilis

In the treatment of hysteria, amenorrhoea, flatulent colic etc (fruits, leaves); to treat upper respiratory tract disorders and to ease arthritic aches and pains (leaves); to treat sprains, bruises etc (oil from fruit); used to treat anorexia, cancer, candida, colic, dandruff, earache, high Blood Pressure, hysteria, nervousness, rheumatism, uterosis.

Levisticum officinale

For inflammations of the bladder and urinary tract and in digestive problems such as lack of appetite, flatulence and indigestion.

Manilkara hexandra

As a tonic and in fevers (bark); Also used in jaundice, flatulence, dyspepsia, burning sensations, helminthiasis, constipation, catarrh, bronchitis, leprosy and dipsia (plant).

Marsdenia tenacissima

For colic (root)

Mentha piperita

Stomach problems (including colic), gall bladder pains, nausea and as a stimulant (plant); headache and local aches (leaf); diuretic, alleviating spasms and as an expectorant (during colds). The anti-spasmodic quality relieves pain arising in the alimentary canal. Due to its stimulating, stomachic and carminative properties, it is effective in treating certain forms of dyspepsia, flatulence and colic. Peppermint tea is used also for palpitation of the heart. In cases of hysteria and nervous disorders, an infusion of Peppermint is administered.

Menyanthes trifoliata

For digestive disorders due to indigestion, flatulence and constipation, in rheumatism, gout, dropsy, scurvy and skin affections; it is also used as a substitute for tea (plant)

Monarda didyma

For digestive disorders, flatulent colic and sickness, to treat urinary disorders, rheumatism etc

Moringa oleifera

Used in paralytic conditions and intermittent fever; also useful as rubefacient in rheumatism, in spasmodic affections of the bowels, hysteria and flatulence as well as in epilepsy (roots); in diseases of liver and spleen, in tetanus and paralysis (fruit); in rheumatism (seed oil); in dental caries, otalgia and headache (gum).

Myristica fragrans

Used in treatment of pestilential and putrid fevers, asthma and heart disease, digestive disorders, kidney disease and lymphatic ailments. It stimulates the appetite and improves digestion and calms nausea and vomiting. The nutmeg oil is used to dispel flatulence.

Nigella sativa

In biliousness, colic, constipation, debility, fever, headache, herpes, jaundice, ophthalmia, parturition, rheumatism, sores, septicemia, sciatica, anal sclerosis, stomachache; to increase the secretion of milk, are good for digestive and menstrual disorders, insufficient lactation and bronchial complaints, soothing stomach pains and spasms and easing wind, bloating and colic, to treat abscesses, haemorrhoids and orchitis (seeds); to remove lice from the hair (powdered seed).

Ocimum basilicum

Sweet basil acts principally on the digestive and nervous systems, easing flatulence, stomach cramps, colic and indigestion. It is taken internally in the treatment of feverish illnesses, poor digestion, nausea, abdominal cramps, gastro-enteritis, migraine, insomnia, depression and exhaustion. Externally, they are used to treat acne, loss of smell, insect stings, snake bites and skin infections. The mucilaginous seed is given in infusion in the treatment of gonorrhoea, dysentery and chronic diarrhoea. It is remove film and opacity from the eyes also. The root is used in the treatment of bowel complaints in children. Extracts from the plant are bactericidal and are also effective against internal parasites.

Oroxylum indicum

The root-bark is used as an astringent and tonic and also in diarrhoea and dysentery. The stem bark is used in acute rheumatism. In the form of an infusion, it is used as a diaphoretic. The fruits are used as carminative and stomachic, while the seeds are used as purgative. The roots are used in dropsy and the leaves are reputed as an emollient. Tender fruits are described as carminative and stomachic.

Paederia foetida

Hemorrhoids, in piles, inflammation of spleen, liver and chest pain (root); as a tonic (root and leaf); in rheumatism (plant); used as poultice to relieve distension of abdomen due to flatulence and also used in herpes (leaves); to children in diarrhoea (leaf juice); for vesical calculi (leaf decoction).

Pentapetes phoenicea

Used for diseases of the bowels (capsules); alleviative of wind and fever (root)

Peucedanum grande

In gastric and intestinal troubles specially in gastric spasms and flatulence (fruit); diuretic (seed oil and fruit).

Phyllanthus amarus

Jaundice and liver diseases, diabetes, influenza, asthma, infections of the bronchial tubes, indigestion, colic, dropsy, as an astringent, diuretic and disorders of the urogenital system and kidney (plant). The whole plant is used to treat jaundice, chronic dysentery, dyspepsia, cough, asthma, indigestion, diabetes, urinary tract diseases, skin diseases, ulcer, sores and swelling. Whole plant is used in gonorrhoea, menorrhagia and other genital affections. It is also useful in dropsy, jaundice, diarrhoea, dysentery, intermittent fevers, ophthalmopathy, scabies, ulcers and wounds. Young shoots and leaves are given in dysentery and ulcers. Fresh root is an excellent remedy for jaundice. The decoction of the plant is a remedy for intermittent fevers and intermittents with infarcts of the spleen and liver.

Pimenta dioica

To treat arthrosis, athlete’s foot, bruise, candidiasis, cold, colic, corns, cramps, diabetes, diarrhea, dysmenorrhea, dyspepsia, fatigue, fever, gastric disorders, gingivosis, high blood pressure, mycosis, neuralgia, rheumatism, toothache, vaginosis.

Pimpinella anisum

In the treatment of various respiratory problems. It is a sexual stimulant and increases the production of breast-milk. It is used the treatment of asthma, whooping couch, coughs and pectoral affections and digestive disorders such as wind, bloating, colic, nausea and indigestion. Externally it is used to treat infestations of lice and scabies. Anise warms the abdomen, dispels gas and is helpful for belching, vomiting, chronic diarrhea, abdominal pains, sluggish digestion and hernia. Star Anise is used as a sedative, especially for nervousness and to induce sleep.

Pongamia pinnata

As a tonic (seed) and in hemorrhoids (stem bark); chronic fevers, rheumatism, lumbago, herpes, scabies, leucoderma and other skin diseases, flatulence, dyspepsia, diarrhoea, cough, leprosy and gonorrhoea (plant); on the head to heal ulcers and cure dandruff (leaf paste); used for cleaning sores, as well as for cleaning teeth and strengthening gums (root juice).

Premna integrifolia

The decoction of the root is said to be a cordial, stomachic and useful in liver disorders. It forms an ingredient of Dasamoola. A decoction of the leaves is used in the treatment of colic and flatulence while that of the tender plants is used for rheumatism and neuralgia. The leaves are rubbed along with pepper and administered in cold and fever, also in gonorrhoea and during convalescence from fevers.

Quassia amara

For diarrhea, intestinal worms, dysentery, dyspepsia, excessive mucus, expelling worms, intestinal gas, stomachache, anemia, and liver and gastrointestinal disorders (plant); for liver and gallbladder diseases and for intestinal parasites (wood).

Raphanus sativus

Stimulate the appetite and digestion, having a tonic and laxative effect upon the intestines and indirectly stimulating the flow of bile (root); in the treatment of asthma and other chest complaints (leaves, seeds and old roots); in the treatment of indigestion, abdominal bloating, wind, acid regurgitation, diarrhoea, bronchitis and in the treatment of intestinal parasites (plant). It is crushed and used as a poultice for burns, bruises and smelly feet.

Ruta graveolens

For colic, as an analgesic, in hysteria, giddiness, nervous headaches, palpitations and rheumatism (leaf); alleviating gall bladder stones, gallbladder pain and spasms, in amenorrhea and menopause (for hot flashes) (plant); as an emmenagogue, anthelmintic and in epilepsy (volatile oil); coughs, flatulence (flower infusion); alleviating pain.

Sandoricum koetjape

Used to treat intestinal disorders, colic, dysentery and leukorrhea and to promote digestion (roots); used externally to promote sweating and as a bath to reduce fever(leaves); applied externally to ringworms (paste of the bark); used as a drink to reduce fever and as a poultice to itching (leaves); to stop diarrhea (decoction of the leaves).

Satureja hortensis

Ear maladies (leaf); used in menstrual suppression and flatulent colic, and is a stimulating tonic after fevers, to treat nausea, diarrhoea, bronchial congestion, sore throat.

Solanum indicum

Toothache, colic and as an antiemetic (root); expectorant and carminative (root and plant); for asthma, fever, catarrh, chest pains, colic, cough (dry and spasmodic)and edema (plant).

Solanum xanthocarpum

Cough, asthma, bronchitits, dropsy, leprosy, constipation, flatulence, sore throat, tonsilitis, gum diseases, snake bites, heart disease, chest pain, certain types of fever, muscular pains, gonorrhoea, dysuria, enlargement of the liver and spleen and stomach. Leaves are applied locally to relieve pain. The juice of berries is used in sore throat. Like roots, seeds are also administered as an expectorant in asthma and cough. The plant is credited with diuretic properties and is used to cure dropsy. Its juice is mixed with whey and ginger and given in fevers. The juice of the leaves, mixed with black pepper, is prescribed in rheumatism.

Stereospermum suaveolens

It is used to treat inflammations, vomiting, dyspepsia, flatulence, asthma, fevers, anasarca, diseases of the blood and distaste. A decoction of the roots is sued to treat a variety of conditions, including intermittent and puerperal fevers, inflammatory chest affections, and affections of the brain. The root bark is generally used in combination with other plant drugs.

Styrax benzoin

Used in the treatment of asthma, bronchosis, cancer, catarrh, colic, constipation, corn, cough, cramp, dermatosis, enterosis, gout, immunodepression, laryngosis, nervousness, rheumatism, stomachache, stroke and ulcer.

Tanacetum vulgare

Rheumatism, ulcers (chronic), for gout, as an abortifacient and vermifuge (essential flower and leaf oil); maladies of the liver, gall bladder and the bile duct, in treating strangury, kidney weaknesses, in dyspepsia, with troublesome flatulence, hysteria, jaundice, fevers (plant); to treat amenorrhoea and painful dysmenorrhoea and as an anthelmintic, especially for children (leaf infusion and whole plant);in diphtheria, acute inflammations of the throat, and in epidemic catarrh (spray or inhalation of plant decoction).

Thymus serpyllum

In the treatment of bronchitis, catarrh, laryngitis, flatulence, indigestion, painful menstruation, colic, hangovers, to minor injuries, mouth, throat and gum infections etc

Toona sinensis

Used to treat red spots on skin and as a remedy for gynecological troubles, including irregular menses (bark); to treat diarrhoea, chronic dysentery, flatulence, bloody stools, seminal emissions, leucorrhoea, metrorrhagia and gonorrhoea (decoction of bark); used to cool and to promote urination (powdered roots); chewed to stimulate digestion (young leaves).

Trachyspermum ammi

For sore throat, bronchitis, diarrhea, increasing the secretion of gastric juices, alleviating spasms and as a tonic (fruit); as a carminative (root and fruit); in flatulence, atonic dyspepsia and diarrhoea and cholera (plant); colds, coughs, influenza, asthma, diarrhoea, cholera, colic, indigestion, wind, oedema, arthritis and rheumatism.

Trachyspermum roxburghianum

In flatulence, dyspepsia, diarrhoea, pharyngitis, rheumatoid arthritis, bronchitis, cough, asthma and strangury (fruit).

Tribulus terrestris
